Most people experience Frederick County, MD at street level. Two local operators are flipping that script entirely.

Whether you're 14 feet up on an open-top deck rolling through Downtown Frederick or drifting 1,000 feet over the Monocacy River at sunrise, Frederick looks completely different when you change your altitude.

Maryland Double Deckers

Maryland Double Deckers puts you aboard a vintage London double-decker bus rolling through Frederick - the open upper deck turning an ordinary afternoon into a story you'll be retelling for weeks.

The lineup runs from storytelling history tours and exclusive brewery tastings to hands-on reptile encounters for kids, with the bus accommodating private groups of up to 48 guests for corporate outings, bachelorette parties, weddings, and beyond.

Signature public tours like Brew with a View and specialty runs such as Pages & Pastries - with stops at bookstores and bakeries - keep the calendar stacked season after season. Most tours clock in around 45 minutes to 3.5 hours depending on the experience. Book early - these tours often sell out.

Tailwinds Over Frederick

Tailwinds Over Frederick is Frederick County's only home-based hot air balloon operation. You’ll see them floating passengers over the Monocacy Valley with Sugarloaf and Catoctin mountains on the horizon and, on clear mornings, sunlight glinting off the Chesapeake Bay in the distance.

Flights carry up to seven passengers and launch either 30 minutes before sunrise or two hours before sunset - the two windows when winds run calmest over the valley.

A traditional champagne toast typically caps the flight, because floating over Frederick at golden hour deserves a proper sendoff. Learn more and book a flight.
