More than a dozen country churches in northwest Frederick County, beautifully decorated for the Christmas season, will open their doors to visitors. Two of the oldest congregations, St. John's Lutheran Church and Grossnickle Church of the Brethren were formed in the 18th century. Several churches feature similar altar paintings by C. Guy Stambach, and others have pipe organs made by the Moller Company of Hagerstown. The self-drive tour is sponsored by the Myersville-Wolfsville Area Historical Society. The tour starts from the Myersville Town Hall, where annotated maps will be available, along with free refreshments, and historical displays. Docents will be on site at each church to provide detailed history and answer questions.
