    The Garden Conservancy, an international organization that works to preserve and restore notable gardens, is coming to Frederick County! The Garden Conservancy’s Open Days Program is featuring the gardens of six noteworthy properties in Frederick, Middletown and Myersville. Explore and experience these beautiful landscapes at your leisure, or enjoy a guided tour that some are offering. Tickets are $7 per garden at the door, or discounted tickets are available online. All proceeds benefit the Garden Conservancy.

    High Glen Gardens

    High Glen Gardens is a young, 64-acre private estate at the base of the Catoctin Mountains with ten acres of impressive formal gardens, a grand allée of bur oaks, an earth sculpture of warm-season grasses, a wetland, and a newly-reforested woodland.

    Edgewood Garden

    Comprised of 15.5 acres and fifteen gardens, a field, and a woodland with natures trails including three water features, a shade garden, a rock garden, and outbuildings hand-crafted from reclaimed materials.

    Surreybrooke

    Tour twenty-five acres of mixed woodland, food forests, and gardens with over 100 varieties of fruits. Visit the willow dome and circular straw-bale home and visit the small on-site nursery selling paw paws, elderberries, chokeberries, juneberries, ornamental willows, inoculated mushroom logs, etc.

    Rausch Woodland Gardens

    A woodland wonderland with wandering paths through second-growth mixed forest of red, white, and black oaks, tulip poplars, and beech. Enjoy rhododendrons, hydrangeas, and tree peonies anchoring mixed borders of ferns, hellebores, hostas, wild ginger, wildflowers, and chainsaw-carved stumps.

    Long Creek Homestead

    Basford Family Garden

    A curved river-stone pathway with shade-loving plants anda brick patio accented by a cascading water feature. Don't miss the 130-year-old majestic black oak transplanted in 1951 from Maryland's Eastern Shore.

    Digging In The Garden!
    At High Glen Gardens in Frederick, Executive Director Peter Couchman and staff will offer free, hourly guided tours of the formal gardens as well as the natural areas under development, such as the wetland, woodland, and earth sculptures. At Surreybrooke in Middletown, staff members will lead informative discussions on the unique plantings as well as the history of the gardens, outbuildings, and the Civil War-era house.
