Sky Stage hosts a varying roster of poetry and prose writers and writers groups for readings followed by open mic on 2nd Wednesdays from May through October. Come share your work with a supportive, appreciative audience under the stars! Beer/wine available with valid government-issued I.D.
May 8 features an evening of Beat poetry hosted by Frederick poet Roderick Deacey and the DC Beats--Ron Goad on drums, percussion and occasional remarks, plus crazy ex-Dutchman, now American Niels Jonker on 5-string upright bass.;
June 12 is hosted by the Frederick Writers Salon
July 10 hosted by the Slant Light Poets Collective, including Wayne Drozynski, Nichole Dowlearn, William Derge and more
Lisa V. Proulx will be reading from “Weedmonkey,” the award-winning true story of the author’s mother’s childhood growing up in coal mining camps of Appalachia during the Depression as the daughter of the town prostitute. Lisa is an award-winning and International Bestselling Author.
Shea Winpiglerwill be reading from a work in progress. Shea is an aspiring screen writer, novelist and producer. She has a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism and has interned at Wilton’s Music Hall, the oldest surviving music hall in the world; USA TODAY Sports; TerpsTV; and Animal Planet.
Amanda Moskowitz will be reading excerpts from a new one act play, I Am Her. As a debut playwright, she explores the complex nature and lasting impact of sexual abuse. This raw and entangled display of personal experience gives voice and validation to survivors of abuse.
Roderick Deacey, a singer-songwriter and beat poet, will be reading poetry. He is the resident poet for The Harried Americans Roadshow and often appears in Songwriters Assoc. of Washington shows at Café Montmartre in Reston. His DC Beats trio was featured May 8 at Sky Stage.
Elayne Bond Hyman will be reading from a work in progress.
Jeff Reynolds will be reading an excerpt from an unpublished novel. Jeff is a fantasy and science fiction author whose work has appeared in Andromeda Spaceways magazine. Follow him on twitter at trollbreath42, or check out his website trollbreath.com.
Kari Martindale will be reading from a woman’s fiction work in progress. She is an educator, and in the past has written children’s books.
Sky Stage is a pre-revolutionary building shell transformed by artist Heather Clark into a public art installation and community arts venue, with programming facilitated by the Frederick Arts Council. Offerings include live music, theater, drum circles, acoustic open mics, film, children's storytimes, literature/poetry nights with open mic, fine art installations, dance, artisan markets, yoga and fitness.
