Details
Joseph Dill Baker (1854-1938) was known as “Frederick’s first citizen” for his many contributions. This 70-foot granite bell tower was erected in 1941 in his memory. It now houses 49 carillon bells ranging from 22-3,500 pounds, which are still played. A brass “bas relief” dedication plaque honoring Baker is located on the base of the tower. Carillon Bells Recitals are held on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month 12:30-1pm.
