Tour de Frederick and High Wheel Race This Weekend
Frederick, MD – Bicycles of every kind will take to the streets of Frederick County this weekend, August 12-14, 2016.
The 7th Annual Tour de Frederick features bicycle rides from 8 miles to 100 miles over the course of the weekend. Funds raised from the event will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Frederick County. The various rides are listed below and include length of ride and start time:
Friday, 2:30 pm Frederick History Ride, 10 miles
Saturday, 6:30 am Century Ride, 102 miles
Saturday, 7:00 am Metric Century Ride, 62 miles
Saturday, 9:30 am Club Riders Ride, 31 miles
Saturday, 10:30 am Family Ride, 13 miles
Sunday, 8:00 am Covered Bridge 36 miles
The National Clustered Spires High Wheel Race will take place in historic downtown Frederick on August 13, 2016. This is the nation’s only high wheel race! Racers will ride high wheel bicycles along a 0.4 mile route. This year's race will consist of 2 qualifying heats and a final race to determine the 2016 champion. Activities associated with the race are listed below:
2:00 pm Streets Close for Race
2:00 - 7:00 pm Pennies & Pints Beer Garden at Frederick's City Hall Courtyard
3:00 pm National Clustered Spires High Wheel Race begins (2 races - qualifying heats)
4:30pm Antique Bicycle Parade
5:00pm Public Servant Relay Race
5:30pm Final Race to determine winner
6:15pm Awards Ceremony and Closing
