Directions to Frederick, MD

Few destinations are more centrally located to America’s mid-Atlantic attractions than Frederick County. Just a few hours and an easy day trip from New York, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh, and minutes from Washington, DC, Baltimore, MD, Harpers Ferry, WV, Gettysburg, PA, and Sharpsburg, MD. Stay in Frederick and see it all.

To reach the Frederick Visitor Center:

Major highways that access the county are I-70, I-270, US 15, US 40, US 40A and US 340.  Frederick County’s highway network makes the county easily accessible by automobile and motor coach.  Greyhound Bus has a terminal at Downtown Frederick’s MARC commuter rail station

By Road:

From Interstate 70: Take the Downtown Frederick exit 54 (MD 85/East Street) and turn north onto East Street at the traffic light at top of exit ramp.  Continue north on East Street beyond a roundabout and the Visitor Center will be on the left, just beyond the traffic light at South St.  Short term parking is located behind the Visitor Center off of Commerce Street. 

From New York, Philadelphia and Baltimore: Access I-70 W from I-695, the Baltimore Beltway, and follow I-70 west to exit 54 in Frederick, turning right off the exit.  Follow directions from I-70.

From Pittsburgh and Western Maryland: Route I-70E from Hancock/ Hagerstown to exit 54 in Frederick, turning left at the traffic light at the top of the ramp.  Follow directions from I-70.  

From Washington, DC and points south: Route I- 270N from Washington, DC to exit 31A and follow Rt. 85.

From Central Pennsylvania and points north:  US 15S from Pennsylvania to Frederick.   Follow signs for I-270S and then exit onto I-70E toward Baltimore.  Merge into right lane and take exit 54/Rt.85/East Street toward Downtown Frederick, turning left at the light at the top of the ramp.  Follow directions from I-70.

From Northern Virginia, Leesburg or Harpers Ferry:  US 15N/340E from Virginia or West Virginia to Frederick.  As you enter the Frederick vicinity, follow signs onto I-70 E toward Baltimore.  Take the first exit after the I-270 split, exit 54/Rt.85/East Street toward Downtown Frederick, turning left at the light at the top of the ramp.  Follow directions from I-70.

By Bus:

Greyhound Bus transportation. 

By Rail:

Maryland Rail Commuter (MARC) connects Frederick to Baltimore and Washington. AMTRAK stations in Baltimore and Washington, offer MARC rail transport to our three stations in Brunswick, The City of Frederick, or Point of Rocks.

By Air:

Ronald Reagan Washington NationalDulles International, and Baltimore/Washington International Airports are less than an hour's drive away. The Frederick Municipal Airport also serves general aviation.

For Motorcoaches:

The Frederick Visitor Center offers an exclusive motorcoach pull-off space directly in front for easy loading and unloading. Short-term parking while your group is inside the Visitor Center is allowed. These motorcoach directions will help to guide your motorcoaches into our designated space.
