Handicap Accessible Parking

Under Maryland Motor Vehicle Law §13-616, vehicles displaying a valid handicap (H/C) plate or hangtag may park at a regular metered space for up to twice the posted time limit at no charge. Example: a two-hour meter allows four hours free with a valid H/C tag or hangtag.

Red loading-zone meters are reserved for commercial loading and unloading from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM. After 10:00 AM, they convert to regular meters - drivers with a valid H/C tag or hangtag may park there for twice the meter’s time limit at no charge.

No handicap parking is permitted in long-term loading-zone spaces.

All City of Frederick parking garages are handicap accessible and include H/C spaces on every level. Prevailing garage rates apply to all patrons, including vehicles with H/C tags or placards. Learn more.
