Details
Joseph Dill Baker (1854–1938) was known as “Frederick’s first citizen” for his many contributions. This 70-foot granite bell tower was erected in 1941 in his memory. It now houses 49 carillon bells, ranging from 22–3,500 pounds, which are still played. A brass bas-relief dedication plaque honoring Baker is located on the base of the tower.
Bells played by City Carillonneur, John Widmann, for ½ hour (4, 5 and 6pm).
