Learn the story of Catoctin Iron Furnace through conserved artifacts and interpretive exhibits. A highlight of the museum are two forensic facial reconstructions. In the 1970's, a highway expansion project resulted in the excavation of thirty-five graves at Catoctin Furnace. Left out of the written record in name and deed, the individuals are revealed within the archeological record. Now, the art and science of forensic facial reconstruction allow you to meet them.
The museum is open weekends year-round; Wednesday through Sunday in summer and also serves as a visitor center for the nearby Catoctin Iron Furnace area of Cunningham Falls State Park.
